YOUTH TEAM LAWS OF GAME QUIZ 2011 posted 10th Aug 2011

Gentlemen - the Laws of the Game quiz this season will concentrate on the duties of a touch judge (not the slightly wider duties of an assistant referee) - see Law 6. You will need to understand all of those laws enabling a touch judge to carry out his duties effectively. Additionally, you will need to know the signals which might be given by the referee (there are 46 in total !) and the signals which can be given by a touch judge or assistant referee (a total of three).

All of the Laws and also the referee, assistant referee and touch judge signals can be found at the link shown

A cash prize will be given of £25 to each winner from each age group of the youth teams. Hopefully, the quiz will take place immediately before Christmas.

Presidents Day - Sunday 1st May posted 11th Apr 2011

President’s Day will be held on Sunday 1st May. The following Monday is a national holiday. The intention is to hold a mixture of senior and youth games during the day. More importantly, the intention is for everyone to enjoy the day, as the season end approaches. The bar will be open throughout, and a rolling buffet will also be available to everyone attending. All members and supporters are welcome. Let’s hope we have some warm and dry weather !

A lot of effort has to go into organising and running a day long event of this type. It is important that this workload does not fall on the shoulders of a few individuals. We need to share the load. Can you please volunteer one hour of your time to assist. This could be anything from a stint behind the bar, replenishing the buffet, generally tidying up etc. Please can you let me know of your availability to work for an hour, ideally by sending me an Email to davidarmstrong1911@btinternet.com or alternatively by telephone 0121 382 8513 or mobile/text 0785 874 5121 or by speaking to me at the week-end. Yes - this means you !

Youth Player Laws of the Game quiz posted 12th Jul 2010

There will be another 'Laws of the Game' quiz, to be held probably just before Christmas. A £25 cash award will be given to the winner, with a separate award for each age group team. Please note that the quiz will concentrate on those laws which are directly relevant to the game you actually play each week. In other words the laws relating to tackles, off-side, line out, scrums, mauls, rucks etc. It is not necessary to spend any time learning "technical" aspects of the laws. You do not need to know, for example, the dimensions for goal posts and pressure of the ball etc. - you don't need this information during a game. There will be no "trick" questions on obscure points of law. For the purposes of the quiz you can completely ignore laws 1 through to 9 inclusive. The Laws of the Game can be found at the link below. Do not simply try to remember the laws 'parrot fashion.' Try to understand the intention behind the law - gradually it will come together like a jigsaw, and make sense.
